End User License Agreement

The short version
  • You get a free, personal, non-transferable licence to install and use the extension. You do not own it.
  • Install it from the Chrome Web Store. Do not repackage it, rebrand it, or ship a modified build under our name.
  • Free translation uses your AI key against your endpoint. Those costs, and that provider's rules, are yours.
  • The extension reads and rewrites page content on sites you use it on. It does that locally, in your browser.
  • Paid comic translation is governed by the Terms of Service — including the personal-use-only limit.
  • The software comes with no warranty. Updates are automatic through the store.

1. This licence

This End User License Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agreement between you and FutrixDev ("we", "us") for the Translator browser extension, including its updates and any accompanying documentation (the "Software"). By installing or using the Software you accept this EULA. If you do not accept it, uninstall the Software.

This EULA covers the Software running in your browser. The server-side Service — accounts, credits and comic translation — is governed by the Terms of Service, and data handling by the Privacy Policy. Where this EULA and the Terms conflict about the Software itself, this EULA controls.

2. Licence granted

Subject to your compliance with this EULA, we grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and use the Software on browsers you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use.

Internal business use. You may use the Software for your own work inside your organisation. That permission covers reading and understanding material for your own purposes; it does not extend the comic translation licence, which remains strictly personal under section 6 of the Terms of Service, and it does not permit you to provide translation as a service to third parties.

The Software is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors retain all right, title and interest in it, including all intellectual property rights. Any rights not expressly granted are reserved.

3. Restrictions

You may not, and may not allow anyone else to:

  • copy, modify, adapt, translate or create derivative works of the Software, except as section 4 permits or as applicable law expressly allows notwithstanding this restriction;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any part of the Software or the Service, or attempt to derive source code or protocols, except to the limited extent applicable law permits despite this clause;
  • rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense, distribute or otherwise transfer the Software, or make it available to third parties as part of a service bureau, hosted offering or paid arrangement;
  • repackage or republish the Software, or publish a modified or rebranded build to any extension store or download site, in a way that uses our name, logo or store listing or that could be mistaken for the official release;
  • remove, obscure or alter any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notice;
  • use the Software to circumvent paywalls, access controls, DRM or any technical protection measure, or to access material you are not entitled to access;
  • use the Software to build, train or evaluate a competing product, or to scrape or bulk-collect content;
  • bypass the Software and call the Service's API directly, run it under automation, or otherwise defeat quotas, rate limits or billing (see section 6.1 of the Terms of Service);
  • use the Software unlawfully, or in violation of the terms of any website you use it on.

4. Source code and open-source components

Parts of the Software's source code are published at github.com/wangqianqianjun/translator. Where source code is made available under an open-source licence, that licence governs your use of the source and, to the extent of any conflict, prevails over sections 2 and 3 of this EULA for that code. This EULA governs the compiled, signed distribution published on the Chrome Web Store, our name and branding, and your access to the Service.

The Software also includes third-party open-source components distributed under their own licences. Those licences continue to apply to those components, and nothing here restricts rights they grant you.

5. Installation and updates

The Software is distributed through the Chrome Web Store and is subject to Google's terms in addition to this EULA. Install it only from the official listing; we are not responsible for builds obtained elsewhere, which may be modified or malicious.

The Software updates automatically through the store. Updates may add, change or remove features, and this EULA applies to them. If an update introduces materially different terms, we will say so.

6. What the Software does on your machine

To function, the Software reads the content of pages you invoke it on and writes translated text back into them; captures video captions on supported sites; stores your settings, glossaries and API keys in browser storage; and sends translation requests to the endpoint you configure. It reads a page only when you ask it to translate.

You are responsible for using it on pages where you are permitted to. Do not use it on content you are not entitled to see, and do not use it where a site's terms prohibit automated processing of its content.

7. Your AI provider and keys

Free text, page and subtitle translation uses an AI endpoint and API key you supply. Those requests go from your browser directly to that provider; they do not pass through us. You are solely responsible for the key, for any charges your provider bills you, for complying with that provider's terms, and for anything you send them.

Keys are stored in your browser's extension storage. Anyone with access to your browser profile can read them. Keep your device secure, and revoke a key at your provider if you believe it has been exposed.

Comic translation requires an account and consumes credits. It is governed by the Terms of Service, which apply in full — in particular the requirement that translated pages are for your own private reading and may not be redistributed, published or monetized, and the prohibition on batch or automated use. Nothing in this EULA grants you any right to the paid Service beyond what those Terms give you.

9. Your responsibility

The Software is a tool that acts on content you point it at. We do not choose that content, see it (in the free path we never receive it), or vet what you do with the result. You are solely responsible for how you use the Software and for the legality of that use where you are. If your use breaks the law or infringes someone's rights, the liability is yours alone and you will indemnify us against any resulting claim, as set out in section 15 of the Terms of Service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Term and termination

This EULA takes effect when you install the Software and continues until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach it, and we may terminate it if we discontinue the Software. You may terminate it at any time by uninstalling.

On termination you must stop using the Software and remove it. Sections 3, 4, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14 survive.

11. No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will work with every website, browser version or provider, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that translations will be accurate. Machine translation is imperfect and must not be relied on where accuracy matters. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising out of the Software. Our total liability relating to the Software is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or USD 100. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.

13. Export and government use

You may not use or export the Software in violation of applicable export control or sanctions laws, and you confirm you are not located in an embargoed territory or on a restricted-party list. If you are a US Government end user, the Software is "commercial computer software" and is provided with only the rights granted to all other end users under this EULA.

14. Governing law and general

This EULA is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes are subject to section 17 of the Terms of Service. If you are a consumer with mandatory local rights, those rights are unaffected.

  • Changes. We may update this EULA; the current version is always published here, and continued use after a material change means acceptance.
  • Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
  • Entire agreement. This EULA, the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement about the Software.
  • Language. The English version governs; translations are for convenience only.
